Al Dhafra PV2 Solar Power Projects Inauguration A Beacon of Sustainability and Clean Energy

On Nov. 17, 2023, the Al Dhafra PV2 solar project, a landmark achievement in the United Arab Emirates’(UAE) pursuit of sustainable energy, marked its official inauguration. This monumental occasion was graced by HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy ruler of Abu Dhabi; HE Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; HE Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment and Deputy Chairman of Masdar; HE Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Mubadala; HE Engineer Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi; HE Jabr Mohammed Al Suwaidi Minister State; HE Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the UAE and many other important people.

 

HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed the UAE’s steadfast dedication to advancing its clean energy sector, minimizing carbon emissions, and actively supporting worldwide initiatives for climate action as the nation prepares to host COP28. His Highness emphasized that the UAE consistently leads the way on a global scale in the development and implementation of groundbreaking clean energy solutions. With a focus on attaining energy security, the UAE is concurrently working towards creating a prosperous future for generations to come, as evidenced by their ongoing projects and endeavors.

This remarkable project is located approximately 35 kilometers from Abu Dhabi city, span over 20 square kilometers of desert area. Constructed with around 4 million photovoltaic modules and 33,000 sun trackers. Such a large scale solar power plant will generate about 2 GW of electricity power, meet over 160,000 households’ electricity needs and reducing 2.4 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

As the world grapples with the pressing challenge of climate change, the UAE has emerged as a beacon of sustainable development, spearheading ambitious initiatives to transition towards a clean energy future. The Al Dhafra PV2 Solar Project stands as a testament to this unwavering commitment. With a staggering capacity of 2GW, this project is not only the world’s largest single-site solar power plant but also a symbol of the UAE’s unwavering dedication to environmental stewardship.
